SunWest Airlines has announced plans for a new hub and crew base at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), scheduled to begin operations in early 2020. The expansion will introduce over 40 daily flights to 25 destinations across the United States, Mexico, and Canada. SunWest expects the new operations to create over 100 jobs within the local economy.
"SunWest's plan to expand their presence and create jobs in the Los Angeles area is a welcomed addition for us," said Vice President of Operations of Los Angeles World Airports, Maria Harrington. "This will not only benefit the airport, but Southern California as a whole."
The airline aims to begin hub operations by February 1, 2020. The timeline corresponds with SunWest's ongoing ETOPS (extended-range twin-engine operational performance standards) certification process, which it began earlier this year.
