SunWest Airlines has announced that it will begin servicing Lake Tahoe Airport (TVL) with daily flights from Los Angeles and Las Vegas. Lake Tahoe Airport, which has been without mainline service for nearly two decades, offers passengers quick and convenient access to South Lake Tahoe.
"We faced a lot of logistical obstacles, but our team did a great job getting this service up and running" said CEO Andrew De Forest. "The South Shore of Lake Tahoe has been underserved for a couple decades now, so we jumped at the opportunity to enter this market."
SunWest worked closely with airport management and city officials to get the airport ready to handle commercial flights again. The terminal, which was converted into administrative offices for the City of South Lake Tahoe, needed extensive work to begin receiving passengers again. TSA requirements, which didn't exist the last time airport had commercial service, also presented a unique challenge.
